University of Makeup Full Makeup Course

A couple of weeks ago I joined the University of Makeup for their Full Makeup Course to expand on my makeup skills and learn interesting new tricks. Plus, after I finish my courses, I get a certification (which you don't need to be a makeup artist but it definitely is nice to have when so many other don't). It also doesn't hurt that they have an online store that sells makeup (all kinds of brands - MAC included) and skincare products that University of Makeup students get discounts on (members also get free shipping).

I've only gotten through the first 5 lessons (about). I had heard the videos were tedious and always feature the same woman (Anneke La Grange) applying makeup on herself and that the video quality was great.
Boring Videos? Yes, the videos are tedious...but why didn't anyone mention how terribly annoying they are? While Anneke may have a lot of valuable information to share, she just smiles and talks awkwardly to the camera the whole time with an accent that irritates me.
Video Quality: I'm not sure what year those reviews were written but the videos are good enough that you can see what is happening, but its totally going overboard to call them "great." Aside from the video quality, the videos open with dated background melodies that sound like they are from a quinceƱera video. One of them even changed scenes by shrinking the screen shot into a paper airplane that flew into and out of the next scene.

In any case, I will keep trucking through these lessons and learning! I'll let you know how my experience went when I'm all done!

    1. Much better! They did an update on all their videos and lessons. They are better quality and has a voice-over that I can follow easier.

  2. Hi...I'm interested in the University of Makeup course but I'm a bit skeptical. Not many reviews are around and those that are are either old, a bit biased as though they were written by their admin or negative. I even checked out their facebook and theres not much activity with respect to customer reviews.
Is the course legit and is the course worth it?

    1. Hi Tamacia.

It really depends on how much you are getting the courses for. I bought it with a discount because of a promotion they had. I'd say if you can buy the course for like $50 or less, its worth it. Its A LOT of information (some of which is very useful). Plus, most makeup courses cost at least a couple of hundred for so many different levels and phases of classes. Its definitely worth the money if its not too much.

  3. Hi there! I just recently joined the course and I was wondering if they still sold MAC products on their website? I couldn't find much on their online store maybe i'm looking in the wrong place. Thanks :)

  5. Apatheticx, I don't think they sell MAC products anymore. I haven't seen them on the website either.

  6. I am doing the course and it is great and gives actual makeup artist tips. I do not work for them and I stumbled upon them online. makeup is more than slathering on colors and many youtube videos do not show the true skill and art of makeup artistry and they lack theory. I tried the faceit promakeup course and it only showed you the makeup looks no real theory and the video quality was not as good. I previewed Robert Jones but he talks really fast and is confusing and used some techniques that I find to be a bit difficult and not as detailed. I would recommend university of makeup to anyone.

  9. Hi Leena and Ruby. I can't speak to the quality of the makeup they sell. I've never purchased any of it. I would if it was a brand I recognized but I'd rather not risk it.

  10. Hey all. I am just wondering if you are still enjoying the course. I am selling a new product line www.youniqueproducts.com/DaynaEsson and I am looking at learning more about applying make up. I also noticed there is a promo going on for these courses right now and was thinking of signing up. Any more opinions/thoughts out there?

  11. Dayna...if there's a promotion going on...I think it won't hurt to do it.

  12. I'm thinking about the university of makeup, do they send you the kits like many others I researched send you kits to work with? are the courses worth paying for? I'm very skeptical about scams

    1. Hi DeLisa. No, they do not send you a starter kit. I think the courses are worth paying for....depending on how much you're paying. When I purchased, there was a mega promotion going on. However...it is not scam. I can ease your mind about at least that. :)

  14. How much of a discount do students get at the online makeup store? I'm thinking about signing up but I will need to buy a new makeup kit but I can't justify spending $500 on it either.

    2. Yes there is a discount although I believe it ended when I just signed my daughter up a couple days ago. BUT I emailed them and asked them to extend it and they did, So try to email them and say you heard about the discount and know it was ending but could they extend it to you. As for the kit, try CoastalScents.com or Elf.com good makeup and great prices. We did not buy their kit it was just too expensive. Plus my daughter has as much if not more makeup as they do, lol. in the kit. Good Luck!!

    2. hiiii natalie stark you can go to dealdey.com to get into the makeup school for less than $20usd but its in Nigerian Naira. you can communicate with the customer care service to communicate with them because a coupon code will be sent to your telephone no so you'll have to send to the makeup university for the activation of your account, and you don't have a nigerian no.
